Launch Semi-Finalists Announced!

Today, with great excitement, Slingshot announces we have selected six semi-finalists for our Launch initiative!

We had almost 20 applications in total and it was a tough task to narrow it down to the six. We appreciate all those who applied and it was great to learn about so many incredible organizations helping the community.

Without further ado, the six semi-finalists are…

American Printing House for the Blind

The American Printing House for the Blind’s (APH) mission is to promote independence of people who are blind and visually impaired by providing specialized materials, products, and services needed for education and life.

Bridgehaven provides hope and recovery through innovative, comprehensive, community based mental health services to adults living with mental illness. Our core values include advocating for those living with mental illness; value and respect every person; using best practices and striving for excellence; committing to the highest ethical standards; and believing that recovery is possible.

Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana

The Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana (GSK) have been building girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place since 1917. Girl Scouts, in partnership with committed adults and communities, inspires girls to develop strong values, leadership skills, social conscience, and conviction about their own potential and self-worth.

Global Game Changers

Global Game Changers mission is to provide enriching educational programs that empower all children to find their inner superpower to make the world a better place and become more engaged citizens using our superpower equation: MY TALENT+MY HEART= MY SUPERPOWER! Our vision is that every child, no matter who they are or where they come from, will learn to embrace IGNITE GOOD!

Hope Scarves

The mission of Hope Scarves is to share scarves, stories and hope with people facing cancer.

We do this by sharing Hope Scarves (a scarf that comes with a survivor story) to those in treatment, and also supporting cancer research.

New Roots

New Roots was founded in 2010 with the mission is to ignite community power for fresh food access. We do this through our community leader-driven Fresh Stop Markets, fresh food markets that pop up biweekly in 16 fresh food insecure, underinvested neighborhoods in Kentucky.

Best of luck to our semi-finalists. Stay tuned for the next steps!

Launch is a non-profit initiative by Slingshot to donate our time and services to design and build a custom mobile application for one local non-profit organization. Learn more at or click here to visit the announcement about this initiative.

Innovate with the Lean Process: Hear us speak

Leadership Johnson County at Franklin College regularly puts on events to foster collaboration and innovation.

Join Slingshot CEO David Galownia and CIO Chris Howard as they speak on the Lean Process as a method of innovation at the annual Power of Innovation Symposium.

Innovation in any industry requires big ideas, rapid iteration, and early and often customer involvement.

At this talk, we’ll speak on how the Lean process helps facilitate continued innovation and specifically how it’s applied for developing leading edge software products.  We’ll look at how Lean came to be and go through examples where the principles weren’t followed, leading to some interesting results, as well as look at some examples where the process was applied effectively.

Beyond software, the principles of Lean are applicable to any industry and out of this talk there will be real takeaways for everyone involved.

The event will be held from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM on Wednesday April 18th at Franklin College.
