Kentuckiana Law Enforcement is a leader in connecting off duty officers with clients in need of security, and has secured such events as the Kentucky Derby, the Balloon Glow, and the Forecastle Festival. Their site, built 10+ years ago, was not mobile-friendly. Officers in reality are on the move, and were accessing the site from mobile devices. This combined with a cumbersome experience to view and apply for shifts as well as an administrative section that lacked necessary functionality meant the platform was ready for an overhaul.
Technology: Xamarin, C#, PHP, PostgreSQL
To start, we conducted in-person interviews with stakeholders and officers to uncover their needs, preferences, and pain points of the existing solution. We then developed and tested prototypes to refine and cement ideas for the new solution.
- Interview officers to uncover needs and preferences.
- Create a mobile app and make it easier to apply for shifts.
- More readily display shifts, schedules, and year-to-date earnings within the app
- Modernize the look of the existing website.
- Migrate their platform to Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Hitting The Target
We created a mobile app (available on iOS and Android), which made it easier and faster for officers to access and apply for shifts. We modernized the look of the KLE website to align with the new mobile app, as well as simplified overall functionality of the admin related features. The ripple effect of this project means that it’s easier for officers to get security jobs, which means more security needs are being met, resulting in more people being protected.
