Product Designer

About this Role

You’ll design web apps and mobile experiences for clients across industries, the kind of software people use every day, where the difference between okay and great is felt by real users.

You’ll typically work alongside a Product Lead, who owns strategy and overall direction. Your job is to figure out how each feature actually comes to life, shaping the experience and the details with input from the Product Lead, Lead Developer, the client, and the people who’ll ultimately use what we build. You’ll be an active participant in discovery and research, then own design concepts, prototypes, user testing, and handoff to the tech team. You’ll sit with users, push back on assumptions, and partner directly with clients instead of working through layers.

And you’ll do it with AI as a real part of your process, not a side experiment. We want someone who’s already leaning into that shift and excited to help the rest of the team lean in too.

This role is mostly remote, with regular in-person time for team events and client meetings. You should be located in the Greater Louisville metro area.

We’re flexible on experience level for the right person, but your portfolio should show how you think, not just what you can render.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the design cycle on client engagements, from concept through delivery and iteration, in close partnership with the Product Lead
  • Create clean, intuitive, and innovative user interfaces
  • Talk to real users to understand what they actually need, including the things they don’t say out loud
  • Develop concepts, wireframes, and prototypes hands-on
  • Run usability testing to pressure-test your designs and refine from there
  • Collaborate directly with Product Leads, Developers, QA, and clients
  • Use AI throughout your workflow to move faster on research, ideation, and iteration
  • Help the broader team find new ways to apply AI across our design process
  • Partner with client stakeholders to understand goals, present work, and build trust

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating clean, intuitive, and innovative interface design across web and/or mobile
  • A deep commitment to Human-Centered Design and Lean UX principles
  • Expert-level proficiency in Figma
  • Experience with prototyping and interaction design (Figma prototyping, Framer, or similar)
  • Genuine enthusiasm for AI and a habit of experimenting with it in your own design workflow
  • An excellent communicator who can present work clearly, take feedback well, and translate between business goals and design decisions
  • Willing to challenge existing processes and propose better ones
  • Collaborative by nature and excited about co-designing with teammates and clients
  • Located in the Greater Louisville metro area

Strongly Preferred

  • Willingness to represent Slingshot externally at meetups, conferences, and industry events
  • Excitement about talking publicly about design process and how AI is changing the way we build
  • You don’t need a speaking resume on day one, but you should be excited about building one

Bonus Points

  • Experience with design systems at scale
  • Front-end development knowledge (HTML/CSS, basic React or similar)
  • Consultancy or agency background
  • Experience introducing AI design tooling to a team and measuring the impact

Why You Want to Work Here

  • You like helping businesses achieve new things with technology
  • You want to work with a group that operates with genuine care, integrity, and a healthy sense of fun
  • You like autonomy and are infinitely curious
  • You believe great design comes from teams that trust each other’s expertise
  • You believe AI empowers design teams to be sharper and more creative, and you want to work somewhere that agrees
  • You are highly passionate and want to work with others who are too

Some Cool Benefits

  • Generous PTO and holiday time off, including your birthday
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Quarterly bonuses
  • Valentine’s Day office fairy (it’s a thing)
  • Flexible hours and remote-friendly culture
  • No dress code (except when needed for clients)
  • Zero politics. Just solid people building great things.

What's it like working at Slingshot?

We call ourselves big kids and daredevils because we like to have fun, but we also like to challenge ourselves and our clients. Everyone here is incredibly talented and we push each other to be better. Designer and developer collaboration is a regular thing. As a developer, we want you to continue to learn and hone your craft. Designers will be talking with fellow designers and product managers on a daily basis, and hopefully adding to our wall of post-it doodles.

As a member of the slingshot team, we expect everyone to speak their mind when they have an idea and challenge and respect their coworkers. We play Jenga tournaments, have a ball pit conference room, and begin every meeting by the ringing of a gong. We have some meetings that are all business, but our bourbon corner with the bright yellow couch and bean bags shows we balance work and fun. We are no ordinary tech company. We are who we are, because of the people who work here: a bunch of Big Kids and Daredevils.
